REFERENCES THE SOURCE EVALUATIONS IN THIS REPORT ARE DEFINITIVE. THE APPRAISAL OF CONTENT IS TENTATIVE. (FOR KEY SEE REVERSE) 17 June 1955 Ii 1. The radar warning system in Czechoslovakia is controlled by the Central Warning Service (Ustredni hiasna :luzba), which has under its command subordinate warning services (hlasna,Sluzba). The warning services control both visual warning stations (vidove hlasky) and radar stations (radarove hlasky), 2. The Central Warning Service is in constant contact with the warning services and the radar stations by radio. The wave-lengths used are changed daily according to advance instructions which are issued for a three-month period.. The infor- mation transmitted to and by the stations '~y radio is encoded. The code book used has 16 pages. All timings are calculated on Moscow time. 3. The Central Warning Service is in telephonic contact with Moscow.; If a foreign aircraft crosses the Czechoslovak frontier, orders are at once given to alert fighter aircraft, and, simultaneously, the information is passed to Moscow, which is requested to give a decision on the action to be taken.1 4. The HQ of each division also has a warning service which warns the divisional commander should it receive news that..a group of foreign aircraft are approaching the Czechoslovak frontier.2 Comment: It is not clear whether the fighters are alerted on the 25X1 ground or actually ordered into the air pending a decision from Mo scob,. Comment: The use of the word "division" is obscure. It seems clear 25X1 that the military formation is meant, but whether all divisions are,,sO alerted or only those having an active antiaircraft commitment for a particular area is not apparent. It is possible that "division" actually means military district and refers to the normal Ground Observer Corps which would operate with it.
