There was no evidence to the casual observer of any civil defense measures.
There was much evidence of troops moving about in Moscow and the drilling

At a coeducational. school the children were in uniform; the boys wore .11 military kepis and sashes and the girls,smocks> The girls were apparently
put into uniform some yPtr ago, but the boys were directed to wear uniform
about June 1954.
There were not many advertisements to be seen in the USSR. The few to be
seen were phrases like "A book is the best present " and political slogans,,
LittLe flags with "Peace to all the world" were ubiquitous,.

Pay of Workers
The basic pay of a worker is 800 rubles EL month,of which four to five
percent goes for rent and 20 percent far food. A foreman in a textile
factory t 900 rubles a month.
