first time over Toepchin railroad station flying at an altitude of
between 80 to 120 meters and at a speed of 15 to 20 km/h. The helicopter
came from the direction of Baruth and headed toward Koenigswusterhausen
and probably Zossen. The weather was clear and sunny.

2. Compared with the modern helicopters of US make which repeatedly cross
over the western sector of Berlin, the Soviet helicopter seemed to be
rather primitive and clumsy. The following details were observed:
Cabin: Egg-shaped, 2 to 3 meters long, about 1.7 meters high, upper
section glazed. The cabin was painted olive drab. It could not be
determined if it was of metal or plywood construction or if it was covered
with linen. It wapoccupied by one man, and only his head could be seen.

Tail unit: I't allegedly consisted of 2 thin planks,3 to 4 meters long
which tapered to the rear. The upper plank seemed to be wider than the

3. On 1 February, when KVP signal troops conducted an exercise in the
Zuesedom-Damerow-Schoenefeld area, 2 helicopters were seen circling over the
training area. The aircraft definitely had an open tail and, at the end of
the tail, a propeller rotating in a vertical plane and counteracting the
rotor torque. 3
The description does not agree with the Soviet-type

3. I Comment. A helicopter with open tail has not been known so far. The
