1. VEB Isolierwerk Zehdenick is subord3*ate to the Main Administration
for 11ectrica] Machine Constructic of the Ministry for Machine
ConstructionA It is one of the IKA (Installation-Kabel- and
Apparatebau-Betriebe) group of organizations. Formerly it was one
of three works (the other two being in central Berlin and Weissensee)l
belonging to a Jewish family firm called Jaroslows Glimmerwerk
G.m.b.H. The Nazis dispossessed the owners, and at the end of the
war the concern was appropriated by the state; the three works were
then established as independent entities.
2. The factory has three production departments., one for mica., one for
plastics,, and one for fabrics and paper. The total labor force
numbers approximately 360.
3, The mica department has been producing stampings (Stanzteilen) for
all types of wireless tubes since about January 1954. The factory
has a complete monopoly for these products in East Germany' and
the principal customers are the three RFT tube factories VEB
Funkwerk Erfurt,, VEB Roehrenwerk Muehihausen and VEB Roehrenwerk
Anna Seghers,, Neuhaus., and the equipment factory., VEB Funkwerk
Koepenick. 2 The value of the total production of mica pressings
for 1954 was 39 500.,000 DILE.
4. The raw material for these pressings is mica imported
Attempts have been made to use the darker colored mica imported
from the USSR but its qualit does not come up to the requirements
of high-frequency technique.5 The supply of raw material is irregular
and production is often held up for lack of it, For the year 1954,
the works submitted a requirement of 15 tons of mica., but only be-
tween 8 and 9 tons were received. For the year 19559 a similar
requirement has been submitted., but to what extent this will be met
by the allocation made through DIA Bergbau and DHZ Elektrotechnik
is not known,
