VEB Isolierwerk Zehdenick is subord3*ate to the Main Administration for 11ectrica] Machine Constructic of the Ministry for Machine ConstructionA It is one of the IKA (Installation-Kabel- and Apparatebau-Betriebe) group of organizations. Formerly it was one of three works (the other two being in central Berlin and Weissensee)l belonging to a Jewish family firm called Jaroslows Glimmerwerk G.m.b.H. The Nazis dispossessed the owners,and at the end of the war the concern was appropriated by the state; the three works were then established as independent entities. 2. The factory has three production departments., one for mica., one for plastics,, and one for fabrics and paper. The total labor force numbers approximately 360. 3, The mica department has been producing stampings (Stanzteilen) for all types of wireless tubes since about January 1954. The factory has a complete monopoly for these products in East Germany' and the principal customers are the three RFT tube factories VEB Funkwerk Erfurt,, VEB Roehrenwerk Muehihausen and VEB Roehrenwerk Anna Seghers,, Neuhaus., and the equipment factory., VEB Funkwerk Koepenick. 2 The value of the total production of mica pressings for 1954 was 39 500.,000 DILE. 4. The raw material for these pressings is mica imported Attempts have been made to use the darker colored mica imported from the USSR but its qualit does not come up to the requirements of high-frequency technique.5 The supply of raw material is irregular and production is often held up for lack of it, For the year 1954, the works submitted a requirement of 15 tons of mica., but only be- tween 8 and 9 tons were received. For the year 19559 a similar requirement has been submitted., but to what extent this will be met by the allocation made through DIA Bergbau and DHZ Elektrotechnik is not known, X FBI AEC x I (Note: Washington distribution indicated by "X"; Field distribution by "#".) The plastics department makes small insulating tubes for cables out of Igelit powder and sheets, mainly for use in the electrical systems of motor vehicles and also in electric motors. 6. The fabrics and paper departments main product is insulating tape of various qualities, with a base of silk, linen and paper. 1. Comment: VEB Fuzkwe rk oepeni ck o ns all its mica from VEB Isolierwerk Zehdenick, 'where the stocks are locked in a safe guarded by an SED party man.
