1. The following is one possible route into Sipsongpanfla by bus from Mae Sai
(N 20-02, E 99-19) in Thailand to Kengtung (N 21-17, E 99-36) in Bur=, a two-
day trip; then from Kengtung to Ch'eli (N 21-58) E 100-50), a five-day trip on
foot. It is also possible to reach Hi Town (sic) in Sipsongpanna from Keng-
tung, on foot, in five days.
2. When one is traveling through Sipsongpanna, only traders' laissez-passengers are
acceptable.2 Travelers into Sipsongpanna who speak a Yunnan dialect are watched
more closely than those who speak the Sipsongpanna dialect.
