1. The GSRO (Gosudarstvennoye shakhtnoye o State mining 0) Factory for the
production of agricultural machinery and steel was located in the penter of
Karaganda (sic).l The factory covered.an area approximately three km square
(sic), and there were railroad spurs leading into the factory from four sides.
The factory had four tall smoke stacks, which were usually smoking heavily.
The buildings were all of reinforced. concrete. Two large water pipes came
to the factory from 13 kilometers away. There were 24 engines installed in
the factory. two large engines being brought to t4ie factory
by.four tractors.
2. Construction had been going,on for ten years, and, by 1953, 14 shops or
buildings had been completed, Work had started in each section upon completion.
the new building being constructed in 1953, concrete floors, 20 cm thick,
were being laid. Wooden floors, made of rounded boards, 30 cm in diameter
and 50 cm long, were laid over the concrete.
