Approved For Release 2009/01/06: CIA-RDP80-0081 OA006800690002-3 - EVALUATION DATE OF CO PLACE OBTAINE PREPARED DATE OBTAINEDL REFERENCES PAGES 3 ENCLOSURES (NO. & TYPE)1 - sketch on ditto REMARKS 22 April 1955 1. The following air activity and aircraft were observed at Wittstock airfield between 24 February and 19 March 1955: 24 February, There was individual flying by IMiG-15s during the daytime. The attacking of air sleeves was practiced in the afternoon. Between nightfall and about 2200, individual flights of about 20 minutes duration were made at intervals of about 10 minutes. 25 February to 1 March. There was individual flying and firing at air sleeves on all days except for 27 February. 2 March. At about 1400, 12 11iG-15s in squadron wedge formation crossed over the field. Subsequently the formation dispersed and the aircraft landed individually. It was believed that the aircraft came from another airfield. March, There was air activity after nightfall. Elements of two aircraft circled the field widely. The distance between the two aircraft of a formation was about 10 wing spans. The aircraft flew in the bean of searchlights which followed them to the limit of their range, subsequently were switched off and switched back on again when the aircraft came again within reach. There was only a short interval between the moment the searchlights were switched on aad the moment the aircraft were caught in their beams; this interval was rresumabl- less than a minute. Twpnt 7we're diG-15s, 1 Po-2 d 1 ak-1 parked at the field. Two MiG-15s were identified during air activity. 4 `arch. During the afternoon, there was individual flying by T.U37-1`; s. 7 to 9 March. There was no air activity. 10 to 12 March. YiG-15s made individual flights and formation flights in elements of two. 13 to 16 March, There was no air activity. Approved For Release 2009/01/06: CIA-RDP80-0081 OA006800690002-3 25X1 - 25X1 25X1 Approved For Release 2009/01/06: CIA-RDP80-0081 OA006800690002-3 17 March. Between 1300 and 1430 presumably ill-lOs landed. flying by Il-lOs in additid* gine monoplanes, was individual local y by PMiG-15s.3 18 and 19 March. There was individual flying by MiG-15s. 2. An umbrella-shaped antenna and the mast with the unidentified bow-shaped antenna were still seen on tho hill, 500 meters southwest of the quartering area. A Fishnet-type radar set and a rod antenna were seen on the flight control station. A Kniferest-type radar set was seen next to the bunker southwest of the athletic field. The Fishnet-type radar set previously also located there was not seen. A Token-type radar set was still seen on Rockstaedter Berg (hill) south of the field. There was no change in the status of the radio installations at the flying lane. 3. The AA gun emplacement in the southwestern corner of the field 150 to 200 meters from Roebeler Strasse was still occupied by 6 x 37-mm AA guns. 4. The following air activity and aircraft were observed ut the field between 6 and 14 March: There was only light air activity. On several days MiG-15s made only few local flights. On 13 March, the attacking of air sleeve was practiced. During air activity, 1 van-like truck with radar set, 2 van-like trucks, 1 ambulance, and 1 jeep were usually parked between the western and of the runway and the taxiway.2 On 14 March, 11 MiG-15s were parked in front of the hangars. 5. The following observations were made in connection with the motor vehicle mounting a, rotatable device which had repeatedly been seen near the runway: The vehicle mounted a rectangular, (not round as was reported previously) concave antenna reflector. A sketch was made. During air activity on 13 March, the reflector continuously made 3600 rotations. Each revolution did not take more than 2 seconds. The mobile set was parked south of the western end of the runway between runway and taxiway. One van-like truck e-ich without visible antenna were parked to the right and left of the mobile set. It was not determined whether the reflector had a grid net. 4 7. It was learned, that the scrap of former German aircraft stored at the field was to be turned over to German authorities. The proceeds were to be handed over to the Soviets. This turning over of scrap was allegedly connected with a general agreement arrived at by the GDR 5overnment and the Soviet occupation forces and concerned the entire GDR. 8. At 1330 on 4 March, there was intensive air activity at W,it-tstock airfield. Three MiG-15s were seen aloft, 10 were parked in front of the hangars and 2 were parked at tho dispersal area of the alert flight.
