On occasion of a meeting of functionaries of she uesel3 schaft fuer
Sport and Te(.hnik ((ST) on 20 i:iarch 19 in E:a lc, it was announced
that the GST was no longer financed by the 1) but exclusively by
the iiinistry of tho Interior. Sine January, the L_> _-T ft .s teen directly
vrubordinate to this ministry.
:bout 1 Liarch. Richard Stainer, sonmin--law of i'ieeck., a Ls, nominated as
chief of the GST. The former first secretary, Berthold;, as made chief
of administration of the GST. On 4 i.Larch, the new chief was installed
on occasion of a meeting in Halle which was ai oo -.ttended by two
representatives of the Czech Svazar.m, o union for cooperation with the
srmy. Resolutions which were passed at the meet: Lr_", concerned intensified?
political and ideological indoctrination.

Staimer had initiated the preparation of a plan, according to whic

drivers. Between July and Isovember, the courses are to be attended also

GDR was to be increased to approximately 530,000 members.
7. On 2Q January, employees of the cooperative shops and the HO (trad.&?
organization) in Bad F'reienwalde allegedly had to report at the SI.D
Kreisleitung. Most of the persons concerned were NCOa of the former
German army who were under 40 years old. They learned that they were
to be inducted in mid-February for a 2-rionth military- training cour

the former German army had to report at the SED Kre.sleitungen where
they were told that they had to participate in military training cct.:.rses.
9, On 28 February. P-week courses for selected SED members started in
ST schools. Infantry training was held in l,auenhai.n near Chemnit:c4
motor vehicle training in the Motorsportsohule of the GST in Bautzen,
naval training at the Seesportschule of the GST in Rechlin and radio and
toiephore training in Laucha near Halle.
