3. In early April an Anti-Aircraft Defense Directorate was organized in Tirana
and headed by Major General Gjin Marku, who was formerly Commanding Officer
of the Nlbasan Corps.i The Directorate will include anti-aircraft artillery
unite; aircraft detection units, including radar; and elements from t1?ie ai25X1

4. Since mid-March 1955, an unidentified anti-aircraft regiment in Tirana has
been equipped with ten radar units, six of which are located at the Tirana
airfield. These radar units are of three types, each with a different range.
One type has a 500 kilometer range, a second type unit has a 30 kilometer

range and the range on the third type unit has not been specified. Each
of the radar units is mounted on a Zia truck. In March 1955, four Soviet
officers and eight enlisted men, were attached to this anti-aircraft regi-
ment in Tirana for five months to train Albanian radar operators.

o the Enver Hoxha Officers School in Tirana. In 1945, General Marku
attended the General Staff School at the Voroshilov Academy in the Soviet
Union. He completed his studies in 1948 and in June of that year, was
appointed Director of Artillery in the Ministry of Defense. In 1949
he was made a major general. In 1950, he was assigned as Director of
Combat Training in the Ministry of Defense.
