Direction of approach not observed. Aircraft headed northwest while loosing altitude. After departure, long interval before next aircraft arrived. All aircraft mid-wing monoplanes with swept back wings, 1 round dontained fitted between middle and outer third of wing, projecting beyond leading edges of wings. Another MiG-15 dived down on air sleeve from high altitude. No bursts of fire heard nor tracer ammunition seen. Procedure was repeated twice. A third MiG-$5 coming from Babie Doly headed east at about 1,500 meters and disappeared from view. 13 Feb No air activity over coastal area in western sector of Baltic Sea. 6. 9 Feb About noon, 2 biplanes circled axes Clear sky, north of Gdingen Harbor at 500 to individual 700 meters for appr 60 minutes. clouds, A Polish employee in a ehi,itping- light easterly office stated that Babit Daly a4,Rfield wind. is used only by Polish *ilitaary aircraft of type MiG. 2 10 and 11 From early morning, 1 flight of MiG Feb aircraft including 1 towing a sleeve target, cvvssed over Gdingen Harbot alto 700 meters and at time intervals of appr 60 minutes. Aircraft approached from north and headed south. Clear, individual clouds, light easterly wind. 25X1 25X1 1 Mar From appr 0600, no air activity over Visibility At 0725, Danzig Bay and later over Hela-Rixhoeft 15 to 20 km, presumably 3 Polish (Rozewie) (5450 N/18 21 E) coastal area. calm sea. submarines and 1 target-tow tug at a distance of about 1 km were seen in Danzig Bay between Neufahrwasser and Hela heading southeast at a speed of about 10 knots. 10 to 13 10 Feb: 1000 to 1600, 3 MiG-15s Good visibility, 3 Soviet 25X1 Feb crossed 16 times over Gdingen easterly wind, heavy warship Harbor at 600 to 700 meters, 1003 millibars units and 3 coming from the north. All aircraft from 10 to 12 destroyers with had auxiliary fuel tanks under the Feb. On 13 Feb: 1 target-tow tug wings which projected beyond the 10/10 at appr proceeded line leading and trailing ,edges. The 1,500 meters, ahead for Hela first of the 3 aircraft towed a good visibility, (Hel) (5437N/1847E) sleeve target. The two other aircraft 999 millibars, roads toward flew slightly higher and did not minus 2 degrees. All aircraft were marked by a white-red chequered paint under the wings. South of Gdingen, the aircraft apparently made a curve to the east and, slightly later, appeared over the sea south of Gdingen. They approached a Soviet warship unit which was anchored off Hela Peninsula and later toward Neufahrwasser. The Mi.G-15 towing the sleeve target directly approached the ships while the other 2 MiG-158 flew at the side and much higher. Only one approach flight was made each time. Light AA guns on the ships fired at the sleeve target. Smmke trails were continuously observed. After the departure, the aircraft turned to the west and disappeared from view. They apparently landed. at Babie Doly airfield. 4 No air activity in Gdingen area. Light snow icigkt flurries. No air activity over Gdingen Clear frost and Danzig Bay. from 15 to 17 Feb From 0800 1L6 1 swept- back jet intervals of'ftW OR minutes, flew from di it ;,angf uhr toward BAY. Aircraft approac at altitude Of about 200 meters, climbed steeply to about 1,000 meters over Gdingen Harbor, then made flat glide toward Hela Bay.S At 1515, 1 large four-engine aircraft with straight trailing edges of wings and rounded wing tips flying at,about 1,000 meters approached from Langfuhr and headed toward Hela Bay. An additional engine- like 6ed under each wing . 17 Feb Jet aircraft flew over Gdingen and Danzig Bay throughout day as on preceding day. Appr at same time 5 Polish sub-marines put to sea from Gdingen U-boat harbor. It was not observed that the submarines participated in exercise by Soviet Navy and Air Force units. On each side and staggered to rear flew 5 aircraft of which only vapor trails were seen. The 4 vapor trails in front circled around aircraft with thick vapor trails. It seemed that rapid fighters escorted a big aircraft. Langfuhr-airfield is 9. 16 and 17 Feb 10. 25 to 27 Feb 9 to 11 Mar 3 Mar under improvement. Jet aircraft allegedly not stationed at Langfuhr airfield hntatiBabie Doly airfield. No air activity over Gdingen, Danzig Bay and coastal area in western sector of Baltic Sea. During sea voyage along Pomerian and Baltic Sea coast as far as Helsingfors (6oloN/2458 E), passing by Porkalla (5956 N/2423 E), no aircraft were pen or heard and no Polish or Soviet warships were sighted. No firing by artillery in coastal area. About 1600, 2 single-engine Partially cloudy, fighters with wings fitted southwesterly somewhat rectangularly to wind, wind speed fuselage crossed over 5 to 6. Naval Observes 1 destroyer in Gdingen Harbor 25X1 25X1 Approved For Release 2008/03/27: CIA-RDP80-0081 OA006900400004-1 Date Observation 1955 13. 10 Mar About 1600, 1 jet aircraft Clear, cloudless, approached from the east frost at low level and headed toward airfield north of Gdingen. After short time, aircraft again seen at altitude of about 500 meters coming from the west and heading toward Gdingen airfield while loosing altitude. The jet aircraft had swept- back wings and elevator assembly and unidentified body under each wing. 11 Mar About 1130, same Approach flight as on 10 Mar. Jet aircraft approached from the east end landed north of nt Danzig Langfuhr (Wrzeszoz) airfield is only occupied y aircraft with piston engines. Comment, Babie Doly airfield is occupied by Polish naval fighter units equipped with MiG-15s. Comment. This installation is a naval radio installation. Comment. The exercise between the Soviet naval units and Polish naval fighter unit from Babie Doly airfield was held with the purpose of fighting with light Ak guns against air attacks at ships. Comment. The aircraft presumably practiced the attacking of ship targets in gliding flight. omment.
