1. A vessel entered Tuapse Harbor at 0700 local time on 3 February 1955 z.nd
left port again at 0600 local time on 4 2ebruaxi 1955 It was the only
ship lying in the oil harbor during the time it took on oil. A Soviet 25X1
merchant ship was moored in -: he government ht.rbor but the name could
not be identified because of the distance. Two Soviet lighters each of
about 2,000 dwt were berthed at 3cutheast side of the quaj pier between
the government harbor and the merchant h~-r.rbor,. No unloading operations
were observed, and the sheds located ashore ';ere closed. No mixed
cargo was observed on the pier. A tugboat of about 300 hp, apparently
a coal-burner, was moored at the small shi-yard just north of the oil
harbor. The tub;, which was not under stew., was not needed to assist ships
in entering and leaving harbor. .A smf.11 decked pilot boarding vessel
with a cabin was moored alongside the tugboat.

Although the sailers tried and talk, to the Russians, no conversation
was brought about.
the Russians in Tuapse were more standoffish than on
previous occasions, although the inward and outward clearing
operations were performed quite smoothly.
3. During the entire period of the ship's stay in harbor, the skies
were overcast wits be cloud and the wind blow from the
northeast with snow flurries. The harbor was practically icefree.
NoSoviet vessels were observed at soa or in harbor, nor were any
airplanes sighted or heard.
