Electrification of the Sofia Mezdra Railway Line
1. For some time now work has been completed on the installation of the
pilons which are to support the high power lines on the Sofia-Mezdra
railway line. According to reports heard by informant, the electrification
of this line cannot be completed prior to 1956 since the 1951-1955 Five.
Year Plan does not provide for the completion of work of this type either
on this or on other Bulgarian railway lines. This is allegedly due to
the shortage of electric power brought about by the failure to construct
"planned" power stations.
The City Trade Building of Stalin
2. The "Gradsko Ttirgovishte" (City Trading Place) is located on Musavata
Square and is directed by Ivanko Dranov, former businessman. This
organization employs 200 persons (office workers, salesmen, porters, etc).
The organization is aimed at supplying its existing stores in the city,
for sale to the public, with foodstuffs, groceries, dinnerware, etc. which
come from the main stores from a store called "Bakaiski stoki" (Groceries).
3. On articles and items placed on sale, the organization has the right to
make a net gain of a percentage which goes from five on sugar, vegetables,
groceries, etc., up to a maximum of 12 per cent on glassware, tableware
and other household articles.
4e The annual gain of the "Gradsko Tt'irgovishter varies between 300 and 100
thousand leva. This sum is subdivided as follows:
a. Thirty per cent of the total is destined at increasing its capital; and.
be Seventy per cent is absorbed by the state in the form of taxes and drones.
Comment: Probably the 1953-1957 Five Year Plan.
