REMARKS
1. Prior to 1 Just 1455. 20,000"volunteers" were to be recruited from
members of the GB?. Especially wanted were boys from high schools as
officer aspirants. 1

were sent to various assembly points and posts from the area of a
KRA. Twenty-five percent of these recruits were to join border police
and Sf S units. A rather large number of recruits volunteered for the

Each KRA had to report daily to the SBA Kreislsitumg the number of
volunteers via a direst telephone connection. Kash applicant was given
a physical check and was subsequently presented to a commission which
included the chief of the KRA, a-asWwr of the ssED ireisleitung and
KVP officers of all branches of ierviee. During the following days, it
was decided whether or not the applicant was fit for service with the
KYP. In order to stress the voluotary character of the procedure, Us-
prospective recruits bad.to turn la applications.
In mid-Amril. masters of the 1937 class were released for recruiting.

registered 14.8 percent of the scheduled number of recruits and another
