1. Ethnic antagonism is nearly non-existent among the village population in
the various Yugoslav republics. However, this feeling is stronger among
toe population of the cities, especially among officials and employees
sbrving in administrative and economic enterprises. Ethnic antagonism
in this field is currently much stronger than it was before the war.

the present animosities have an economic basis; namely, the republics
are fighting with each other with varying degrees of success, for the
allocation of credits from the Federal Government for construction of
industry and other public institutions in their respective territories..

2. The animosity of Serbs and Croats is directed against the Republic of
Slovenia because, since the liberation of the country and under the pro-
tection of Franc Leskosek, Edvard Kardelj and Boris Kidric, that republic
obtained large credits from the Federal Government for the development
of its industry. As a result, Slovenia is presently a self-supporting
republic and its population has the highest standard of living in Yugo- 25X1
slavia. In addition, the above-mentioned Slovenian leaders maneuvered
so well that all key posts in the federation administration responsible
for the country's economy were given to the Slovenians.
3. Voja Lekovic, member Executive Council PR Serbia, made several
energetic protests against the allocation 25X1
of credits for the electrification of Slovenia while that republic was
exporting power abroad. He also protested against the electrification
of Bosnia and Montenegro, as these republics do not have consumers,
while Serbia could not obtain adequate credits for the construction of
power plants needed for their industry. While speaking about his
unsuccessful intervention Lekovic expressed his 25X1
contempt for the Slovenes.
