Since September 1954, at regular fortnightly intervals, 15 to 25 Hungarian civilians leave the Debrecen airfield for the USSR and China. 2. Between July 1954 and the beginning of February 1955, 850 skilled workers 25X1 and 120 engineers have left Hungary. The engiheers'.were mostly recent graduates; .55% of them finished their university training in 1953 and 1954. 3. Hungarian groups are flown to Alma Ata and taken from there to their aesti? nation&0 including Peiping to work on the Peiping-Ulan Bator railroad. The 25X1 Peiping-Alma Ata railroad will be about 29500 km. long and the Peiping-Ulan Bator railroad about 1,000 km. long. Both railroads figure in the Chinese Ten Year Plan. 4. The Chinese Government,through its representative in Budapest and in 25X1 collaboration with the Hungarian State Railroads,,is conducting.a propaganda campaign to recruit more workers. The contracts are for periods from two to four years. After two years a three-week paid vacation is promised with free passage home. Families in Hungary will receive the full salary of their husbands and parents 75% of the salary of their sons. 5. he various national groups,, such 25X1 as the Poles, Rumanians,, etc., do not seem to get along. Complaints about the food have led to the establishment of national kitchens. There are also complaints concerning the lack of'contact with the local population. 6. Hungarian workers in the USSR and, China rarely hold individual passports. They usually travel with a collective document which isrrsaf.eguarded by the_Party Secretary.
