1. On 23 February and again on 11 April 1955, the following radio installation which
was arranged in three sections was seen on a plateau about 1.5 km northeast of
Helleonsoedt (48025'N/14olOtE) in the triangle formed by the Helleonsoedt- Reichenau
(48o27tN/14021'E) and the Hellmonsoedt-Haibach (48026'N/14021'E) roads:
a. One installation was located about 1.5 km northeast of the ohurcls of Helleonsoedt
at the southeastern side of the road leading to Reichenau. An area, about 100 x
150 meters, was surrounded by a barbed-wire fence, about 180 ca high.
A mobile Token type radar set was locat^d in the southwestern corner of tl25X1
fenced-in area, about 10 meters from the road. The two reflectors rotated
uniformly counter-clockwise at a rate approximately half a minute per rotation.
A cable extended from the set to a generator which was painted with camouflage
paint. The generator was closed and no noise was heard. 25X1
There were four temporary buildings, about 6 x 3 x 3 meters, covered with
roofing paper, without windowl and each with a brick chimney. No personnel
were seen near the buildings.
An antenna installation of one metal mast, about 7 meters high, was located
between the temporary buildings. Four wires extended from the top of the mast to
the ground. A cable extended from the ground to one of the wires to where it was
fitted at a point about 50 on below the masthead.
A Fishnet-type radar set was located about 10 meters northeast of the antennae
b. Another installation covering an area about 100 x 60 meters was located east-
southeast of the first installation. A generator and a wooden building similar
to the ones described above were located in the area which was surrounded by a
fence. 25X1
Between the generator and the temporary building was a metal mast about 20
meters high and fitted on top of this mast was a Kniferest-type radar set.
Every 5 minutes the set would rotate for a approximately 30 seconds.
A Fishnet-type radar set was located at the eastern edge of this installation*
a. A third installation, the former rangerts house, was used as quarters. Copper
wires extended from the quartering installation to the two radio installations.
The former ranger's house was a single-story horseshoe-shaped brick building.
Its front along the road was about 25 meters long. The rear building which
previously housed stables and barn apjn rently served as garage and repair shop,
The building was white washed and had a gray roof of eternit. Five canvas-
oovtred trucks, including 2 half-track vehicles were parked under a lean-to
roof. The motor vehicles were guarded by a sentry,
A high-tension. power line (380,000 volts) extended across the radio installations
closely past the Token-type set in the southwestern corner of the first instal-
lation. 25X1

ranger's house in the direction of the second installation. Two of
the soldiers were accompanied by Alsatian dogs.
On 8 and 11 April, no personnel were seen. One sentry each patrolled
the fences of the two radio installations; one sentry was posted at
the road block near the former ranger's house, another sentry near
the motor vehicles. All sentries were armed with submarine guts. It
was learned from a local resident of Hellmoensoedt, that a detail
of 50 personnel were stationed at the installation and-that they
? cers wore ac -ordered crimson epaulets.
