In late March 1955, a turbine of the Hirschfelde VEB power plant caught fire and subsequently the whole boiler house was set ablaze. The turbine had only recently been installed and was still in its test run. The fire was said to have been caused by "non-flanged" oil pipes conveying cooling oil under 12 atmospheres pressure to the turbine. 2. The damages were estimated at 2* million DME.
