1. Approximately 15 physicists are now engaged in nuclear physics research in
Sofia. The most prominent among them is We. Elisabeta Ehramikhaylova,
professor of nuclear physics at Sofia University, who vas recently trans-
ferred to the Academy of Science` and relieved of all other duties in order
to divot. full time to nuclear physics research. Leon Mitre i is. her tempo-
rary replacement as lecturer in physics at Sofia Bniversity.
2. In addition, 10 or 15 Bulgarian physicists have bees sent to the USSR for
further studies. Upon their return, they will conduct nuclear physics
research in Bulgaria.
3. In the near future, the Bulgarian Government will issue a decree to begin
preparations for the construction of installations to process fission
materials. Uranium processing plants, to be constructed near the villages

.rne_ntt s in September 19514, Mitrani
had been transferred from the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics at
Sofia University to the Academy of Sciences to to work in a special
department for atomic research, then being established. A subsequent
report stated that, as of February 1955, Mitrani was still doing atomic
research at the Institute of Atomic Physics (under the jurisdiction of
the Academy of Sciences. Mitrani is an expert in the field of cosmic ray
