This is UNEVALUATED Information 22 June 1955 1. The following observations were made at Oranienburg airfield between 9 and 22 May 1955: 9 .to 14 May. There was intensive air activity. 16 May. Flying was practiced during daytime and at night. 22 May. A total of 50 to 60 Il-28s or UIL-28s were observed along the taxiways in the northern section of the field. No air activity was conducted. 1 A gate erected at the wire fence on Birkeh Allee, west of Velten Bridge. A gray van-like superstructu*e 5 to 6 meters long and about 3.5 meters high was observed justibouth of Birken Allee, about 60 meters east of the gate. 2 2. Observations made in Weisse Stadt: In mid-May, buildings Nos 7, 9, 11, 12 and 14 unoccupied and under renovation. Building No 10: The ground floors of the 3 southern entrances housed the kitchen and messhalls of Soviet Air Force EM. The rooms on the other entrances were vacant. Building No 13: The rooms on one entrance and 50 percent of the rooms on the other entrance in the northern section housed classrooms for Soviet children. The rooms on the two neighboring entrances were occupied black 25X1 4paulets. The rooms on the other entrances were not occupied. Building No 15: The rooms on the first entrance were unoccupied. Some rooms on the other entrances were occupied by air force officers and their dependents. 3 3? According to rumors, a portion of the quarters in Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp near Oranienburg was to be renovated for air force personnel. 4 5. On 13 May, Lorf (fnu), technical chief of the_Special Construction Bureau Eberswalde and Yakovslevski (fnu), the Soviet civil engineer of the Eberswalde Kech Central, were present at Oranienburg airfield. A reinforced concrete bunker, 14 meters long, about 8 meters wide, about 4 meters overground and about 1.5 meters underground, at the southern taxiway, along Birkenwerder ->Allee was entered because of an electric light installation whichwas scheduled to be laid. On this occasion, it was determined that 20 Il-28s or IIIL-28s, were parked on a ax way in front of the hangar. was es ma e a here another 15 to 20 aircraft of the same type parked farther away but in the same area. Between 1400 and 1500 on 13 May, 4 or 5 I1-28s made local flights. Between 2200 and 0400 during the night of 21/22 May, there was intensive air activity by I1-28s or UIL-28s. 1 6. At 0800 on 24 May, the construction staff in Oranienburg was informed by the freight railroad station master in Oranienburg that 4 barracks for quartering purposes for air force personnel had arrived. One barrack was destined for Oranienburg and the other 3 barracks for Werneuchen and Finow. The former was dispatched to Eden and, by order of Yakovslevski, was to be set up 5 to 6 km north of the airfield. 5 25X1 25X1 7. At 1100 do 23 May, Yakovslevski appeared colonel in the construction headquarters in Oranienburg Kajor Monkevich (fnu) of the central Kech officer in Ebe d in Oranienburg on the same day since the general wanted to speak with him. While. the lieutenant colonel telephoned with Eberswalde it was determined that his name was Borodulkin (fnu) and that he was the chief of staff of the air force in Oranienburg. It was leaned simultaneously that the previous technical chief, Lieutenant Colonel Kovlevski,was promoted to brigadier general and that the new technical chief of the W oup was a Colonel Kiryuzhie (fnu). The latter appeared in sedan 7in the Oranienburg and 600111 the 25X1 construction headquarters at 1100 on 1 May. He inspected renovated buildings in Weis se Stadt. Comment. [Comment. Almost all of the quarters in Weisse Stadt restricted 25X1 Comment. The purpose of the van-like superstructure it to be 25X1 Settlement are occupied by the Soviet Air Force. Comment. No information is available that parts of Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp are to be occupied by Soviet troops. 25X1 5. Comment. The information on the area where-.the barracks is presumably to be established indicates the possibility that it is to serve as quartering facility for the operational personnel of a radar station. Comment. The officers Borodulkin and Kovlevski are reported for the first time. Colonel Kiryuzhin was previously reported under the name of Kirkhukhin. At 1100 an 23 May, Yakovslevski appeared with a iieutenant colonel in the construction headquarters in Oranienburg and inquired if Major Monkevich (fnu) of the central Kech officer in Eberswalde was exjected in Oranienburg on the same day since the general wanted to speak with him, While the lieutenant colonel telephoned with Eberswalde it was determined that his name was Borodulkin (fnu) and that he was the chief of staff of the air forue in Oranienburg. It was learned simultaneously that the previous technical chief Lieutenant Colonel.Kovlevski was promoted to brigadier general and that the new technical chief of the Wue up was a Colonel Kiryushin (fnu). 25X1 The latter appeared in sedan in the Oranienburg and entered the construction headquaeters at 1100 on 17 May. It is believed that Oranienburg airfield is occupied by the 25X1 ea quarters of a bomber division, 1 bomber regiment and I reconnaissance regiment equipped with II-28s.
