Work on the bridge at Hohenwutzen has been suspended because of the swollen
river. Some of the workmen have been transferred to Schwedt/Oder where a
concrete bridge is being built under high pressure, mainly by Tiefbau
Brandenburg'. This new bridge is being built alongside a steel bridge
which has already been completed. The concrete bridge starts in the vicinity
of the Markgrafen-Schloss "Monpiaisir". It will be 240 m. long and 20 m.
wide; at present double piers are being erected. The bridge will connect
the road from Chojna (Koenigsberg) with that to Schwedt4.ngermuende-Berlin.
It is to be completed on 1 December 1955. Its inauguration will take the
form of a large-scale Polish-German friendship celebration. The bridge
will be built entirely of ferroconcrete.
2. The bridge at Zuokeriok is being completed. It has been lengthened
about 250 m. into Polish territory. There is a total of 7 arches which are
now being painted. The construction site on the Polish side is screened
off. Women
