a. The first tractor factory of the nation
completed in 1955.
b. China, Mongolia, and the USSR had agreed to construct the Chining (N28-26,
E 121-2$)-Wulanpachu Railroad. The section of this railroad from Chining
to Erhlientuan (0059/6647/3008) was completed in December 1954.
c. The first micro-tool machine factory had been established in Harbin.
d. The nation's first automobile factory had undertaken mass production.
e. The USSR had been helping China establish the 100-billion-square-meter
International Friendship Farm for rice production.
6. Other reports from Kwangtung Province described the following developments:
a. Manpotou in T'aishan (N 2216, E 112-46) had become a hydroelectric power
station.
b. With the completion of the new river at Tuhu (N 22-04, E 112-57) the whole
river had become navigable by February 1955. A typhoon shelter capable of
sheltering hundreds of boats would be completed soon in Tungshihhsu (N 24-
40, E 115-58). Trade communications in the Tuhu area would be facilitated
by these projects.
c. Industrial improvement in machine shops and among manual laborers had been
introduced by the "elder Russian brother"; many large houses in Canton had
been converted into factories. The Canton Cement Factory had become the
main supply for the whole nation.
d. The Nan Fang Mansion, opened on National Memorial. Day, had 11 stories with
an elevator.-
Comment. The Nan Fang Mansion was formerly the Sun Company,
Ltd. Destroyed by fire during World War II it has been redecorated
the Chinese Communist government..
