On 6 July 1955, the barracks installation north of Drachhausen (3304) was occu- pied by 800 to 1,000 soldiers wearing red-bordered black epaulets including 25X1 s activity was observed at the tank sheds. Some sheds we ty; 10 to 12 tanks were assumed to have been absent 2. On 13 July, all tank sheds were occupied to capacity. Tanks and SP guns were covered by tarpaulins.1 3. Prior to 13 July, Camps Lieberose (3302) and Schoenhoehe at the Lieberose train- ing grounds were vacant. During the preceding days and weeks, tank, artillery and AAA units, presumably from Fuerstenwalde, Frankfurt/Oderjand the Cottbus area, were repeatedly observed at the Lieberose training grounds. The units concentrated on firing practices and left after periods of 4 to 6 days. o/C 4. The following shipments were unloaded in Jamlitz near Lieberose between 6 and 16 July: 6 July. At 2000, 3 T-34/85 tanks and 3 trucks, which left toward Stakow. 7 July. At 0800, 14 x 85-m* AA guns, 6 x 120-mm mortars, 20 trucks,a.nd appro- ximately 120 troops, which left toward Stakow. 16 July. At noon, 12 tanks and 14 trucks with 120 to 150 soldiers, which arrived from Frankfurt/Oder. One truck was loaded from a boxcar, presumably with am- munition. 5. Between 0700 and noon on 9 July, the Lieberose-Stakow road was blocked because of artillery firing. At 1700, 20 trucks with approximately 200 soldiers went from Lieberose toward Stakow. 6. At 1600 on 13 July, 6-tanks, which were dug in up to the turret, were seen at the Lieberose training grounds. Additional 12 tanks were stored in the woods.2 Approved For Release 2008/11/03: CIA-RDP80-0081 OA007800330009-4 7. On 8 July, the Eisenbahnpionier Kaserne (3381) in Rehagen was no longer occu- 25X1 pied to capacity. The vehicle shed, which had usually been occupied by appro- ximately 35 mobile decimeter stations of type N, was only about 65 % occu- pied.3 8. The approximately 8 AA guns, which had repeatedly been seen in the yard, were no longer there. The installation which had been occupied by an estimated 1,000 soldiers quartered between 400 and 500 soldiers wearing red-bordered black epaulets including some with artillery insignia and, most of them, black epau- laets with signal insignia.4 Motor vehicles observed included: sedan 25X1 an ticks Comment. Between 6 and 14 July, the kaserne north of Drachhausen appeared to be occupied as previously. No engineers were seen, however. The 10 to 12 25X1 tanks, which were reportedly absent from the installation on 6 Jul were pro- bably at the Lieberose training ground for firing practices. See Comment 2. Comment. Contrary to observations in 1954, Camps Lieberose and Schoen- 25X1 hoehe at the Lieberose training grounds were vacant prior to 13 July. Tank, artillery, mortar and AAA units from the area of the Third and Fourth Gds Mecz Army were apparently transferred to the Lieberose training grounds for 4 to 6-day firing practices. The units presumably bivouacked in the training area. Comment. It could not be observed that elements of the u/i signal unit 25X1 stationed in the Eisenbahnpionier Kaserne in Rehage,i left the installation. It could not be determined, whether the unit was subordinate to GSFG or the Third Gds Mecz Army. Comment. Units of the 2nd Gds AAA Div,stationed in the Eisenbahnpionier 25X1 Kaserne in Rehagen were transferred to iugtrow for firing practices in 2 ship- ments on 11 and 12 July. 25X1 Approved For Release 2008/11/03: CIA-RDP80-0081 OA007800330009-4
