Since he was his parents' only son, icultural work at his parents' farm which was le t"to them as their private property. Under certain prerequisites, the only sons of farmers were allegedly required to take short-term training only. This privilege was granted provided that the subject farms exceeded the determined minimum size, surrendered agricultural products in conformity with the scheduled quotas, and had no tax arrears. The privilege was given to both ethnic Poles and Germans who had applied for Pol- ish citizenship.1 25X1 1. A young German of Maradtken (R 54/A 06), 24 years old, who with his family 2. On the"occasion of the inductions in November 1954, three young Germans from the Sensburg (R 54/A 27) county disobeyed the order to report for active mi- litary service, reas6ning that they as Germans disliked serving in the Polish Armed Forces. After being heard in court, they were sentenced to three years' hard labor in the mines. 3. It appeared that a young German who was forced to apply for Polish citizen- ship and was drafted into an infantry unit in Sensburg in November 1954 was reassigned from that station to Gollnow (6 54/Q 77) on 24 January 1955 4. On 24 May 1953, military unit was located in Nowy Dwor Mazowiecki 25X1 (R 53/K 83). This unit also worked on Sundays. An ethnic German, born 15'May 1933, served with this unit from the fall of 1953 to November 1954.3 1. Comment. The individual mentioned in the present report has presumably 25X1 been drafted into the territorial forces. Under the legal provisions, indi- viduals subject to the draft into the territorial forces have generally to., spend 4 months on active duty in the first year, and 2 months in each of the following 3 years.
