The ]last German Government decided early in . ly 1.955 to put a stop to the development work on television senders which, for the most part, was being carried out in V Work fuer Fernmeldewesen (WF), Berlin- Obersahoenevsidee The order was put into affect immediately. It was felt that it w Ald be more economical to import television transmitters from the West rather than continue the costly development work in last Germany.1 2. At present, television transmitters are in operation in the Stadthaus, East Berlin} Chemnitz (Karl-Marx-Stadt), Leipzig, and on Brocken in the Harz mountains. These transmitters were all built by Sachsenwerk Radeberg. The construction of two further television transmitters at Inselsberg,Theringia and Marlow, Mecklenburg is proceeding and is scheduled to be completed in 1955. 3. The present East Berlin transmitter on. the new Stadthaus (City Hall) is to become inactive after the completion of the new transmitting unit in the Prenzlauer Berg area and is to be used solely for experimental transmissions of the Fernsehze -tram Berlin (Television Center Berlin).
