3. Kannenberg Camp
at When the observations ended ;=his encampment appeared to be completely
occupied by Soviet troops. The majority wore black-red shoulderboards.
Approximc-.tely 50% of the troops appeared to wear tank insignia and two-
thirds of the remainder wore artillery insignia.
b. It is esti:aated that there is a total of 5000 to 6000 men in this en-
campment and in the adjoining firing ranges.
c. Heavy equipment observed entering the camp has included JS-3's, T-34/
85's, 37mm, 85mm and 100mm AA guns. Double banked rocket launchers
having short rails and mounted on ZIS-151 chassis and a column of mixed
120/160 mm heavy mortars were also observed. No accurate estimate of
the total equipment held in this encampment is possible because of the
numerous movements of small detachments in and out.
d. Since 3 August 1955 there has been intensive heavy AA practice on th(_
adjoining ranges. On several evenings u,~ to eight searchlights co-
operating with jet fighter aircraft have been observed.
4. Kroechlendorf Training Area,
a. This new training area bounded between the villages of Wichmannsdorf-
Kuhz-Beenz-1 oecALndorf (approximately 10 kms southwest of Prenzlau)
is still occupied o-, or approximately 1500 Soviet personnel. All appear
to wear black-red shoulderboards with either tank or artillery insi.nia.
There is a total of approximately 60 wooden huts all of which are
occupied by the Soviet troops.

overland and connects the encampment with the town of Prenzlau.
d. Heavy equipment observed at this training encampment includes at
least 15 T-34/85's and at least 25 AT guns of approximately 100 mm
caliber fitted with a large muzzle brake and a split boxed tr~.il.
