~.. The airpoat at Peps has been d~eloped by the l~ussians into the greatest and
most important militax?y air 'base +~urixxg the past few months, probably because
of the excellent central location of this place. Construction, with the eX-
caption of the cleanixlg up around a fe>~r of the minor- buildings, has been com-
plated and there is now stationed at the airport a Soviet air fleet with great
hittia~g capacity. ,
~. Ts+ro concrete ru~ays with great wei,g~at-carrying capacity have 'been built, pa~al-
lel to each other, and three hundred meters apart in a northwest direction, fro
kilometers long and two hundred meters wide, The runways are completely fini~
aa~d the bomber and righter ai~lanes of the Ptzsaian fleet have taken possession.
T'he personnel of the f~s~ian fleet have been living in the cit until the early
spx?ix~ 'became the buildings were not inhabitable. Recently,
that three barracks have also been completed and therefore there is no ~??~er
hindrance to the Soviet fighters moving into the airfield.
the Soviet fleet garrisoned here is not a small one. At the present time,
there are 2~+0 planes at Papa in readiness, of which a majority consists of fighters
but these are quite a few twin-motox?ed light bombers-and other fighters. Tux?bo
fighters and four-motored bombers are nat in evidence at Papa. .
