TO REPORT NO. 1X CENTRAL INTELLIGENCE AGENCY INFORMATION REPORT COUNTRY Hungary/Yugoslavia SUBJECT Yugoslavia's Acceptance of Hungarian Demands to Turn Over Hungarian Political Refugees who Reach Yugoslavia during 25X1X the early part of May 1954 an agreement had 25X1X been concluded between the Tito government and the Budapest Communist govern- ment in connection with future political refugees. Tito has acceded to the Budapest government's demand that he no longer grant asylum to Hungarians who flee to Yugoslavia and has undertaken to half over all political refugees who henceforth cross the Hungarian -- Yugoslav border illegally. There have been cases in which Hungarian Danube sailors have gone to Yugoslavia as political refugees and have been accepted as such, but at present they are afraid of being turned over to the AVO."
