COUNTRY International REPORT NO 25X1 SUBJEC T DATE DIST General Assembly and Council a Cof the International a 5 Standardization, Organization for Stockholm, NO . OF PAGES NO. OF ENCLS. 13 s 16 Jun 55 2 SUPPLEMENT TO REPORT 5X1A 25 1. The meetings were taken up in discussion of resolutions presented for consider- ation. The subjects covered were specific problems peculiar only to pulleys and belts, No technical papers were presented. 2. The Soviet delegate that attended this section of the meeting, Michail Michajiovits Saerin, like all the Curtain area delegates, was listed only as a member of the standardization committee, although it seems unlikely they are all primarily employed in the Bureaux There was nothing said that would indicate what other interest he had, 3, He did not pretend to speak English but was accompanied by an interpreter. When she hesitated while translating for him, he would invariably prompt her, in Russian, showing that he could follow her, 4. The resolutions suggested by him were not well conceived and were generally voted down promptly. For example, in the USSR, the length of an endless V-belt is taken as the-inside length. In other countries the pitch length is used, which is measured at about the center of the cross section. Saverin proposed that the inside length be made standard but the resolution was naturally voted down immediately. He took all such rejections without any sign of resent, 5, 1 had no opportunity to talk with him, or the Polish delegates, outside the meetings as they seemed to vanish at the end of the day. 6. The interpreter, Miss ~I id) Mi,kbailova, spoke fluent Oxford English and 25X1 handled even the technical translations very ably, 70 M R Jankowski., attended irregularly as he was trying to cover several cao~aittees. Neither of them took any part in the discussions and confined their activities to listening and voting, 8, Mr Dobrovolaki is a Professor at the University of Warsaw, From limited conversations, I would class him as an able technical man, friendly toward everyone, LIMITED: Dissemination limited to full-time employees of CIA, AEC and FBI; and, within State and Defense, to the intelligence components, other ,offices producing NIS elements, and higher echelons with their immediate supporting staffs.
