' Approved For Release 2002/09/ 9 September 1965 SUBJECT: DDI Study on Professionalism - Request for Education and Language Data on All Professional DDI Employees 1. Reference is made to our oral conversations on the above subject (11 August 1965 and earlier). 25X1A 2. The attached table and computer listings will provide some of the data you need for your study on "Professionalism" in the DDI. As we advised, we do not have a present capability for providing comprehensive geographic area knowledge of employees and it will probably be several years before we do. 3. You may encounter cases in which employees claim degrees we have not credited. It would be well to know if you do, the criteria underlying the statistics, a general outline of which is as follows: A. Other than non-accredited colleges in the District of Columbia, only regionally accredited colleges and universities are treated as degree conferring institutions. "Degrees" from non-accredited colleges are coded in the same manner as any vocational school training; there is no evidence of a degree or identity of the particular school. B. "Lovejoy's College Guide" (Simon and Schuster, 1961-62 edition) was the source used for determining the accreditation status of all United States colleges and universities. C. Since most data reflected in these statistics were compiled by computer, there is no evidence of some "degrees" from non-accredited schools which some DDI employees may hold. D. Since biographic profiles and Official Personnel Folders were used to provide data for all employees not shown as holding degrees, these data are 100 per cent complete, and by far the most accurate ever compiled of such a nature. E. In instances wherein the employee was recruited while a college senior, he has been coded as having the undergraduate degree claimed to be forthcoming; he has been coded in all cases Approved For Release 2002/00/ET - Excluded trom alliail! 11i dOwwngraditla OIFV? tSCCI S:1SEG81R fl SECR Approved For Release 2002/09/04: CIA-RD 0-00947A000100010001-0 wherein a graduate degree was claimed to be forthcoming as not having the graduate degree, i.e., to be coded for graduate degrees, the individual employee would have to supply signed written evidence to the Office of Personnel citing the fait accompli. F. Some employees have, or claim to have, the "equivalent" of a BA, MA, etc. No equivalency, alleged or demonstrable by any rationale is recorded in the system as a degree or its equivalent. 25X1A 4. There are three employees cited in these statistics as having no degrees who do hold bachelor degrees from non-accredited schools. The employees, degrees, and schools are: information. 5.
