_ Approved For Release 2001/09/04: CIA-RDR )) 6 ? /~Y Y 28 April 1961 MEMORANDUM FOR: Deputy Director (Support) ATTENTION: Mr. SUBJECT: Funding of the "Monthly Index of Riss.an Accessions" and the "East European Accession List" 1. Here is the present status of our review of this matter in light of the GAO's comments. 2. From canvassing the intelligence community, including our own needs, we find that the present published form of these Indexes is not essential for intelligence purposes. However, there are portions of the research work that goes into the preparation of the Indexes that we would want to continue. We are about to work with the Library of Congress to break down the costs of the whole process in detail so as to determine what the portions we would want to continue will cost. We also feel certain other members of USI.B may be willing to contribute to this. 3. We agree that CIA is not the proper agent to fund that part of the effort now made available to the public. Who should do so? We can only think the Library of Congress is the logical one. 4. We would like to report further on this in thirty Assistant to the DD/I (Admin. J aL
