SUBJECT Strategic Services Unit Reserve Account
1, Under date of 23 August 1950, Admiral Hilienkoetter
approved the establishment of a reserve fund totaling ~~+,02?~,000,
Phis sum represented. the residue of foreign currencies, gold,
jewelry, a.nd other valuables on hand at the time of the liquida-
tion of the Strategic Services Ui~.3.t {SSU). The establishment
of this reserve had the approval of the Bureau of the Budget,
2. On the recorn~nendation of the Comptroller, Mr. Du.I.a.es
under date of 2 February 1955, approved the remittance of the
remaining balance at such time as the Comp roller deemed. appro-
priate after settle7:2ent of all pend3.n claims.
3, The item of ~3,992,801.~+5 listed in memorandum dated.
1 May 1957 as a disbursement in support of Voucher 100-T57
represents the balance of the reserve fund. after pending,
claims had been paid.. This amount has been returned. to the
U,S. ^lreasury, and closed. the account.
