Approved For Release 2000 Chief, FE Division TRRCI s Medical Office Comptroller 17 September 1953 d Memorandum to Chief Authorizing cement of Medical Examinations o Household servants This office has re s ewed the attached proposed communication and has thoroughly discussed the matter with the Medical Office of the iAgency and, as a result, concluded that we cannot approve the pro- posed authorization. 2. There is no authority in Regulations for expenses of this type and it would set a precedent that would obligate the Agency with respect to, other areas it the 1)17/A or the Director were to utilize their special authorities to approve such expenses. Furthermore, such authorization would be Inconsistent with other civilian organizations of the Government and iitbuad also be inconsistent with the fact that CIA, does not pay such expenses with respect to dependents of staff employees. -. On the routing and record sheet it is observed that FE (Admin. has commented to W/P (Admin. ),, "apparently this service is provided at other points in FL by our doctors or by service doctors." The Medical Office advises that they only have doctors in about fifteen locations throughout the world azzi that,, therefore, they could not come close to providing such service throughout all of the areas. They also state that it is very doubtful that service doctors would, as a general rule, provide such medical examinations. 4. The Medical Office and the Office of the Comptroller feel that periodical medical examinations on household servants of staff employees is very worth while and should be encouraged, but we do no believe that they, t be justified at,CSA. expense. 25X1A6a 25X1A 51st 11+1 2~ mom,,.,. 17 ors +t -- t~s~s 3 tr~a .0 .
