MEMORANDUM FOR THE RECORD
SUBJECT: Installation of UNIVAC 9200 II at
1. Upon receipt of OSA's procurement request for a UNIVAC
9200 II System in the Information Processing
Coordinator, DD/S&T, initiated a review of the proposed computer
to ensure that adequate planning for its installation had been
completed and to obtain answers to questions which might be
raised by the Executive Director-Comptroller before approving
acquisition. We are assuming that continued support to
is. required at this time. The following additional information is
pertinent to the requested UNIVAC 9200 II:

A. Phase 1 - Plan for OCS RJE Capability at 25X1A

Use of UNIVAC 9200 II. This is described in OSA's
procurement request; the system will provide OSA
with computer support from OCS' large scale computer.
The UNIVAC 9200 II is a digital computer and could
be used for small scale local processing.
(2) Equipment Location. The equipment will be located
in Room 1D11
engineers and
surveyed the area and determined that no special
site preparation is necessary except for a slight
modification to air conditi^ning. All other site
preparation, which is basically the moving of
temporary walls, is being handled as a part of
other moves in OSA.

(4) Communication Lines, OCS and OSA are working with
the Office of Communications to complete specifications
concerning the transmission speeds and appropriate
cryptographic security for the necessary lines between
the OCS Computer Center and Action 25X1A
is being taken with OSA to have them formalize the
request to OC for these lines. It is our understanding
that OC can furnish a 3600 bpi line early in 1971 for
this purpose.

Security Approval. The Office of Security is aware of
this plan, and there are no apparent problems at this
time. Action is being taken with OSA to have them
formalize the request to the Office of Security for
needed security approvals.
Computer Interfacing. UNIVAC will provide special
interfacing hardware and software to permit the
UNIVAC 9200 II to operate with the IBM 360/65 as
a Remote Job Entry device. OCS will install a
2701 Data Adapter Unit for this interface at a cost
of $1, 254 per month. Delivery is scheduled for
5 February 1971. There is no software development
required in OCS to support the RJE activity.
B. Phase 2 - Plan for DATACOM Capability at 25X1A
Planning is also underway for the necessary transmission
lines to connect the UNIVAC 9200 II to the UNIVAC 9300's
DATACOM system at Headquarters so that data

can be transmitted over this net directly from 25X1A
to the field. The target for this capability is the first quarter
FY -72.
2. Funds are available in OCS and OSA to support this
requirement in FY-71 & 72.
3. The alternative mentioned by OSA to transfer OSA's
o Headquarters was investigated. If this were
to be done, space would be required for six OSA personnel on a
continuing basis and, in addition, during activities, space

would be necessary for OSA senior staff personnel who would need
to be here for briefing and decision purposes.
