MEMORANDUM FOR:
Special Assistant
Operations Division, OCS
Listed below are some of our reactions to the Silent 70
terminal.
a. The quietness of the machine appeals to
us very much. We work in an area which has 22 people
in one room. Replacing the 2741 with the Silent 70
would improve the noise level considerably.
b. The speed of the printout is also very
appealing. Because of the time and effort expended
in obtaining printout made at the computer, it is
to our advantage to have more printout done at the
terminal.
c. Although the quality of the paper and
printing is not so good as on the present equipment,
it is felt that this is not a major disadvantage to
us. In the type of work done on the present system,
we need hard but only temporary printout.
d. The reliability of the 2741 has been
excellent so far. We did have trouble with the
previous terminal, the DATEL. Its reliability
(i.e., hardware problems in the DATEL itself) was

so poor that it became an almost useless machine.
We would like to be assured that the Silent 70 is
a relatively reliable machine. Of course, it is
realized that this cannot be known before the Agency
obtains them, but we would like to see inquiries
made to other customers of T. I. on their experiences
with the Silent 70.
e. Five TAD users of the 360-67 saw the
Silent 70 demonstration and all had favorable
reactions.
