2. Security clearance level required is SECRET; eertificatian of clear-
ances may be sent to ll~c. Pope, ar, if addressed to the A~3TlA Security Officer,
Mr. Pope's name should be mentioned to tie the message to the briefing.

is being developed. The equipment Qonsists of two F'lexa~rriterafl one with
ICyrillio lettersfl the other with Englishfl and a data g~ho~ transnnitter and
receiver over whit~h are passed punehed~tape RussiRnmlanguage texts far
translation into English by a cumnputer loeaa't~i at white Plains, N. Y. This
system is still in the experimental mode but, is already used part of the
time for pr~uetion translation to serve the Air Force Sjratesns Command
at WrightmPatterson AFB, Dayton, Ohio.
