After a phone conversation with Senator
Symington last week, you requested some
material on broadcasting by the USSR and
other Communist countries. Attached is
the response to that request.
. The first part contains some statistics
and descriptive material on these broadcasts.
The second part describes some items of
news that were omitted from Soviet broadcasts.
The third part summarizes communist views
of RFE and RL. The last part contains some
descriptions and quotes on'propaganda being
beamed abroad by Moscow and Eastern
European radios. ` P
The statistics are Impressive, but the
excerpts are not. Furt ermore, you may
decide not to send the suction on Communist
views of RFE and RL t Symington because
it could be used by opp,6nents of the radios
as evidence that the Soviets consider RFE
and RL as "cold war relics".
