Approved For Relea 2005/07/01 : CIA-RDP80BO1495R000J 02090009-6 CENTRAL INTELLIGENCE AGENCY WASHINGTON, I.C. 20505 20 February 1973 25X1 25X1 25X1 The Honorable Frederick B..Dent The Secretary of Commerce Washington, D. C. 20230 Dear Mr. Secretary: At our meeting earlier this month we discussed the various kinds of information and analyses about foreign economic developments that this Agency could provide the Department of Commerce. One of these was background data on officials of foreign countries. When I pointed out the importance of keeping this kind of data up to date by getting feedback from US officials who had dealt with them, you offered to arrange for some of the people at Commerce to provide supplementary information on those Soviet and Polish officials whom they met. has sent me the list of such Soviet and Polish officials, and we have assembled a collection of current biographies on them. It seems to me that the best way to accomplish this task is to have a single point of contact in your Department, like Mr. Steven Lazarus, arrange to have these biographies reviewed and updated. If you agree, please have Mr. Lazarus contact Mr. Harry Eisenbeiss of my staff who is prepared to deliver the biographies to Mr. Lazarus and to assist him in this task. Mr. Eisenbeiss can be reached on Interagency Dial System number I also plan to arrange personal interviews with Secretary Lynn and Mr. Peterson to obtain their views on the top personalities with whom they met in the USSR and Poland. I wish to thank you for your understanding and the cooperation I am sure we will get in this mutually beneficial endeavor. 25X1 { dward W.
