Approved For Release 2005/08/03 : CIA-RDP80BO1495R000200010016-5 Mr. John . Devlin The Hoover Institution Stanford IJ lversity Stanford, California 94305 I zu very pleased to hear from you and to you have s-irvived the rigcir8 of life in California. My cartographic friends tell me that unfortunately there is no map folio of the Middle East. The only ones in existence -re on China and Vietnam. Because of the expense, it is doubtful if a folio will be prepared on the Middle East any time 850n. All i not hopeless, however. We do have some very good unclassified maps of Middle Eastern countries, and the people who produce the maps welcome the opportunity to make sets available to academic institutions. They have agreed to ;end you, six sets of maps on the following countries (the only "Middle East" countries Which are available in our unclassified series): Algeria, C ruse, Jordan, Israel, Afghanistan, Nepal, India, Pakistan. Hope this will be of help. Mar~r and I send our warmest regards to you and Ruth. ok forward to hearing of your adventures in the violence- ca?oemic community. Yours very truly, KW:sfc Distribution: 0 - Addressee I - 0BGI Apprpv_edCfRrRRelease 2005/08/03 : CIA-RDP80BO1495R000200010016-5 i - CAR File 1 - DDI Chrono /~ Rel A 0 / . -RDP80B01495R0002000 0016-5-- INSTIUTION ON WAR, REVOLUTION, AND PEACE r1 Ii iiv rusty 1'J n/ r /_ CabArni:i Parch 25, 1969 ice of the DDI Central Intelligence Agency Washington, D.C. 20505 II Greetings from the state that some believe is about to slip into the sea and that others wish would. With some sadness I realize that my year here is more than half gone. And I have-ntt tried anywhere near enough eateries in San Francisco. Anyhow,.w, I am writing to solicit a small piece of infor- mation. There has recently appeared in the Hoover Far East collection a !lap Folio (China) issued by Office of Basic and. Geograpt+ic Intelligence. The people whom I see most of here, namely the Middle Eastern curator's staff, have looked at it with envy z.nd asked me if such a folio or folios were available on any or all parts of the riddle East. Are trey? 11yy own guess was that O/B&GI is covering the world in order of priority and thak the Middle mast lay a long way below China, Vietnam, and the like, but not quite as far down as Anguilla. haven't seen the folio, but it is unclassified and apparently similar to ones I have seen on Vietnam. If you could make an enquiry without inconvenience, I Would aporeci_ateit. Best. regards to T ary and yourself form both of us. Sincerely., Johfl F.
