Approved For Release 2005/07/22 : CIA-RDP80BO1495R000600120003-3 ember 1973 MEMORANDUM FOR: Director of Central Intelligence THROUGH : Deputy Director for IntelligenceL. FROM z Director of Current Intelligence Caements on the Newspaper . Attached is a mid bag of NBC Staff reactions to the newspaper. The objections are the ones we an- ticipated, and which I think we should take quite seriously: the difficulty readers will have, in treat- ing this format as a serious intelligence product, the possible subordination of analysis to reportage, and security. 2. tit these cents say to me is that we should not undertake the newspaper without an explicit and un- equivocal expression of approval from the President and Kissinger. With that in hind, we should then attempt to brief each reader in detail on what we propose to do. .th such an education, I believe most of this small group would begin to see the advantages--some of the comments are of the sort .l understand what you're try- ing to do but those other follows won't". But without a Presidential endorsement we should not let ourselves be carried away by our own enthusiasm for the project.
