Dr. Herbert Stein
The Chairman of the Council
of Economic Advisers
Executive Office Building
Washington, D. C. 20506
Dear Dr. Stein:
I appreciate your kind note of 18 May regarding the
daily briefings provided to the Council of Economic Advisers
I am pleased that you find these briefings
to be a helpful input to your work and that you desire to see
them continue. I met recently with Secretary Simon who
also had kind things to say about work at Treasury.
Consequently, I anticipate that this kind of input will continue,
and you may be assured that ill provide the same
services to you as he has in the past.
Sincerely,

Dear Director Colby:
For about a year the Council of. Economic Advisers has
benefited from daily briefings on world economic events
conducted by This service was arranged by
Secretary Shultz in his capacity as Assistant to the President.
During the past few months we have been joined in these
briefings by Ambassador Eberle or one of his Deputies.
I I am writing to request that, if possible, be
permitted to continue these morning briefings for the Council.
We, consider them extremely helpful to our work in developing
economic policy, especially now that world economic and
