SUBJECT : Attendance at the Annual Meeting, American Historical
Association, 28-30 December 1974, Chicago
1. I request your permission for the following personnel of the
Office of;Political Research to attend the subject meeting:

2. The purpose of their attendance will be threefold. First, to
meet and interview scholars of potential employment interest to OPR.
Second, to attend the various sessions of substantive interest to them as
individuals. Third, to make the point that CIA, and specifically the
DDI, performs a legitimate research function, and to build respect for
that role among professionals in attendance at the Convention.
3. At the request of the ANA, the undersigned will conduct a small
discussion on the sorts of work an historian may do in Government. He
will draw on his knowledge of CIA, State, and other agencies.
4. I wish to authorize actual subsistence for those who will
attend. Costs in Chicago are quite high.
