SUBJECT: Worldwide Reaction to U.S. Position
on Soviet Moves in Afghanistan
1. I would like your office to be the focal point for collecting
all responses from Chiefs of Station and Chiefs of Mission to my message
requesting world views of the U.S. response to the Soviets' moves into
Afghanistan.
2. Further, please prepare a digest of these views along regional
lines and attach it to the messages. Also, please indicate those
responses, from our Chiefs of Station, which are particularly insightful
and those from areas where we have had little previous reporting on the
host government's views.
