MEMORANDUM FOR: Deputy Director for National Foreign Assessment
FROM: Director of Central Intelligence
SUBJECT: Briefings for Olympic Committee Members
1. I may have to participate in some briefings for Olympic
Committee members, perhaps as early as Thursday (or Frank may have
to take this for me if it comes up on Friday). Our role would be
to present the situation in Afghanistan in objective, unclassified
terms. Others would make presentations as to why the United States
should not participate in the Olympics.
2. Please prepare such a briefing for me outlining what we can
say in terms of what the Soviets have done, what's the nature of the
indigenous resistance, how the Soviets have co d their campaign,
.and anything else you think would be germane.ftft
