Approved For Rel a 2005/OUJN. 914- r1 00Q3300210010-6 ~,.LX [E 23 October 1979 MEMORANDUM FOR: Deputy Director for National Foreign Assessment FROM: Director of Central Intelligence SUBJECT: Commerce/CIA Briefings for Businessmen 1. I made a commitment. on 22 October to the Secretary of Commerce that we would be prepared to give an unclassified briefing/discussion on Iran to a group of businessmen possibly as early as the 2nd of Novembe-r_ This would be the first in a new program of Commerce/Agency briefings for businessmen who have interests in particular areas of the world. Secretary Kreps and I believe it is quite appropriate at this time to share our views on where Iran,is and where it is going since businesses are perhaps on the verge of deciding whether and how deeply to get reinvolved in Iran. 2. I would participate personally. I would like to have two or three other people go along to cover the economic and political aspects of the situation. The idea would be not to tell them what is going to happen in Iran, but to give them a feeling for the alternative directions things may be going and what we see the temperature being on the Bazargan side of the house, the Khomeini side of the house, the opposition side of the house, etc. STAIVSFIE D TURNER cc: SA/DCI SA/DCI Approved For Release 2005/01/13 : CIA-RDP80BO1554R003300210010-6 UNCLASSIFIED
