My dear Mr.. President:_'
28 April 1965
YJpon coiripletion'of more than three years' service as
Deputy, Director of Central Intelligence for President Kennedy
and you, I want you to know that it has been a rare honor and
a very real privilege to serve in this capacity. Your choices
of Admiral Raborn as Director and Dick Helms as Deputy.
Director are outstanding and I think I can already assure you
that the Agency is in full and wholehearted support of them
both. , -I, of course, understand fully that the law required
my relinquishment of the position of Deputy Director since
the two top people cannot both come from the military.
You may rest assured that as I resume my.military
duties, my sense of pride in my past, assignment and my
loyalties in my future assignment will continue to be of the
highest order..
