Approved For Release 2004/07/08 : CIA-RDP80BO1676R000300160025 7 8 September 1965 i was so pleased to hear from you, my good friend, and I particularly want to thank you for sending me the report on Antipodal Point Study. I will have our boys examine it and I am sure they will find it of interest. Perhaps we may come back with a suggestion as to how we might profitably use one of your ARIS ships. I regret I have not yet had a chance to see you, but it is a pleasure to see your handsome face on television from time to time. Both Mildred and I recall with great pleasure the warm friendship we have enjoyed with the Davison. When we get into our new home in the not too distant future we hope you will favor us with a visit and we can talk over many things of mutual interest. In the meantime, our warmest best wishes and regards to you and Mrs. Davis. USAF review(s) completed. Sincerely, . F. Raborn Lt. Geaoral L. F. Raborn Director of Central Intelligence Washington, D. C. 20505 I haven't seen you since you assumed your new and arduous duties. However, the attached report gives me the opportunity to drop you a note. The Ranges have long been interested in the characteristics of an antipodal point from the standpoint of efficient location of tracking stations. Our recent success in detecting and tracking with precision radars COSMOS satellites before the first pass- over of the United States fits into the picture. It would be interesting to see what one of our ARIS ships could do at the proper location in the South Pacific. The combination of detection at the antipodal point, tracking with precision range radars and launching an interceptor from the TITAN III pads at Cape Kennedy constitutes important elements of the defense against space systems, but I am sure your people are way ahead of me on this. The National Range Division has been pleased to work with your organization in the past, and I hope the attached and any future studies we can make for you will be useful. Sincerely 1 Atch . I.
