SUBJECT: Letter from Chairman McCone Concerning Items for
Consideration by the "Principals."
1. Chairman MicCone has suggested that the items originally
scheduled for the "Principals" meeting on 11 October be discussed.
by telephone. (See Tab A.) We do not anticipate that these
topics will be resolved by telephone, however this material is
presented in the event that you are asked to comment on them
prior to a formal "Principals" meeting which may be held some
time next week.
2. New Planning Date for Nuclear Shot LOLLIPOP - The
Atomic Energy Commission is currently under instruction to
complete technical preparations for LOLLIPOP by 15 November 1960.
In order to conduct the experiment on that date, it would be
necessary to start installation of instruments within the next
few days. In the event the firing is delayed, much of this
instrumentation will deteriorate and may have to be replaced at
an estimated cost of
