1. In accordance with our telephone conversation this
morniog, the pertinent portions of the letter to Nr. Dulles
tram Assisturt Attorney General Dallas S. Townsend concerning
Edda Mussolini Clew and her three dhildren are est forth as
followet
"It appears from further information contained
in our files that prior to entering iota the contract

in the hope that it would be useful to theAIlied cause
in the prosecution of the war and shed anew light on
past history, that apples of the diaries would be for-
warded to Washington for the infOrmation of the Govern-
nerd., together with a eopy of a letter from Edda Mussolini
Ciano dated January 81, 1945, atatieg that the material
was to be used for official purposes Only and that the
turning over of the copies waLmot to affect arly rights
labia She may have had with regard to the eventual
commercial publication of the diaries,
"As you know, Section 3200(2)(C) of the ?eding

prohibits, with certain exceptions not material here
the return of vested property to individuals who were
voluntarily resident within Germany at any time since
December 7, 1941. It would be eppreciated? therefere,

are the gianapiarpes, published pursuant to contracts entered

Chicago Daily News and Dodbleday, Doran to Company.

files nay contain. You should include, in addition to the in-
formation requested in the last sentence, quoted above, any
