MEMORANDUM FOR GJNI:RAL CHARLES P. CABELL
From: Brig Gen Edward 0. Lansdale
Subject: A Soviet Coincidence
Colonel Prouty on our staff has called my attention to press at:arit
originating from TASS announcing the death of two top Soviet milit.ry.
He saw the story in today's New York Herald Tribune. The T
release announced that Soviet Rocket Forces Commander. Marsh:
Mitrofan 1. Nedexlin was killed in a recent aircraft accident. It ale.
noted the death of Colonel General Nikolai 0. Pavlovski "while Ai iillirm
his official duty. "
Since Khrushchev stayed in New York for weeks before and attar
the proCIaimed "day the world will long remember, " 27 Septtbet
1960 - a'day which still has not been explained adequately - it is posit
that there might be more than coincidence between the un-named #..3rlc
shaking event and the "accidental" death of two top Soviet nulitary. I
thought you might like to have this checked to see if there were am: leac-a
to serious problems inside the Soviet Union that were being reeoivE>d ii
this fashion rather than accepting the deaths as mere accidents.
