Approved For Relapse 2003/01/29 CIA-RDP80B01676R001300040020-4 18 December 1962 MEMORANDUM FOR THE RECORD The Director met at East Building at 0730 with the DDCI. Mr. Sheldon, Mr. I I and Mr. Lundahl. 1. Mr. Lundahl showed pictures of and discussed the tank and vehicle deployment in the area of Havana. Discussion followed the lines of Memorandum on Cuba of this date which was approved by the Director for subsequent release to the Executive Committee, NSC. Mr. McCone sent Mr. Lundahl to the White House to report with the pictures to Mr. Bundy. Mr. Mc Cone said he would talk to Salinger about leaking this information to the press since he felt that this was part of a campaign by the Cubans who would point out at the time of the parade that there were no Soviet forces in Cuba -- that these were all Cubans. In this connection, Mr. McCone noted with interest that the Soviet combat units were still in place. 2. Mr. Sheldon reported that the message on had been transmitted to Mr. Bobby Kennedy. He did not have time of delivery. (Subsequently determined that message left this Headquarters around 1100 a. m. and was received y in Brazil about 1600. Mr. Sheldon is asking to find out why it took so long. ) 3. Mr. McCone stated that Senator Hickenlooper had returned and that he had seen Nasir, whom he saw every time he went to the Middle East. Mr. McCone said we should debrief Senator Hickenlooper and that he would make the arrangements. 4. The Director was briefed on the Yemen, the Dominican Republic, the strike in Peru, Soviet postponement of space shot and possible failure of Soviet nuclear air drop, all as contained in the Check List of this date.
